10 June 2003 - 09:12 CET

Hagemeyer, one of the largest electrical wholesales in the UK, has awarded a five year distribution contract to TNT logistics. The contract will be worth over £10 million per annum, when in full operation.

The contract involves deliveries throughout the UK to more than 200 outlets, servicing each of Hagemeyer's operating companies, including Newey & Eyre, WF Electrical, Barron, A&A Security and Parker Merchanting. Orders are taken until 6pm for next day delivery before 7am.

TNT logistics will also deliver direct to hundreds of electrical contractors, with more than 160 delivery vehicles, making a total of 5,000 drops per day.

The operation is run from the 350,000 sq ft Hagemeyer national distribution centre in Runcorn, which stores more than 60,000 product lines ranging from electric storage heaters to fuses, wires and cables.

Five outbases, served by 13 double-deck trailers are being established, with the first at Peterborough already onstream. The other four, at Gateshead, Redditch, Bristol and Exeter, will be operational by the end of the Autumn.

Neil Crossthwaite, managing director, TNT Logistics UK, says, "Hagemeyer's main requirement was to improve stock availability for customers. This operation, with its state-of-the-art IT systems and new distribution configuration will ensure that availability is significantly enhanced. "

David Power, Logistics Director at Hagemeyer says, "We are looking forward to developing a premium logistics solution for our customers, in partnership with TNT. The new contract is a sign of our firm commitment to providing the best service on the market and we are confident that our customers will see the real benefits."
