Harry Potter magic works for TNT Network Logistics

The recent successful worldwide distribution of the latest Harry Potter book has helped TNT Network Logistics win a three year contract with Macmillan Distribution Ltd.

Macmillan, as well as publishing books, also operates a distributor business for other publishers, including Bloomsbury, the publisher of the Harry Potter books. Last year TNT Network Logistics won the contract to store and distribute the huge number of copies of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix - in the tightest security operation ever undertaken by the company.

TNT Network Logistics is the multi-user division of TNT Logistics UK. It handles a wide range of goods through its network but has a particular focus on the publishing, print and media industries and incorporates TNT Newsfast through which it delivers all the nation's daily and Sunday newspapers.

David Bermingham, Managing Director, TNT Network Logistics, is sure the success of the Harry Potter operation helped convince Macmillan that the two companies would work well together. "This was a very high pressure operation, undertaken within a very short timescale and under the tightest security."

The new contract, for the nationwide distribution of third party books from Macmillan's Swansea operation, is co-ordinated through TNT Network Logistics' depot at Bristol. "We will be delivering 80-100 pallets a day to wholesalers, retailers and freight forwarders (for export orders)," says Mr Bermingham.
