Nivea selects TNT Logistics as its Logistics service provider

02 June 2004 - 10:36 CET

With immediate effect TNT Logistics South America will take over the logistics of BDF Nivea in Brazil, part of the company Beiersdorf, a world giant in the cosmetics/beauty industry. TNT Logistics takes over reception, checking, storage, separation, shipping and distribution management activities for all finished Nivea brand imported or domestic products made at the Itatiba plant in the state of São Paulo (SP), Brazil.

TNT Logistics was chosen after a long selection process including the main players in the Brazilian logistics sector.

A transition project, which preceded the contract, was divided into two stages. During the first phase, starting in September 2003, TNT Logistics took over the operation of the two Nivea warehouses in Itatiba and Vinhedo, both in the São Paulo State. Together, these warehouses are 11,000 square metres in size. In the second phase, which started in mid-February this year, TNT Logistics consolidated both operations in a new, modern multi-user Distribution Centre in the city of Jundiai (SP), which required TNT Logistics to invest an R$ 5 million (1.4 million Euro), and initiated transport management.

By centralising the inventory, both companies expect to have increased process control and cost reduction. "This transition phase was very useful for us to learn more about Nivea and to fine-tune the processes in our new DC", explains Andre Chiarini, TNT Logistics' Electronics and Consumer Goods Director. The multi-user Distribution Centre at Jundiaí introduces state-of-the-art logistics management. The technical project was developed to meet customer needs, and all internal processes for the movement of materials were redesigned. In total, the warehouse has 18,000 square metres and 9,000 pallet positions.

The Jundiai DC also introduces technological novelties. TNT Logistics will use the third version of WMS Click (Warehouse Management System), a logistics management software successfully implemented in other company operations in Brazil and worldwide. Radio communication will also be used, as of the second semester, to assure increased agility and reliability for materials reception and shipping processes.

With the new contract, which will run for three years, TNT Logistics Brazil's share in the electronics and consumer goods segment, now including the beauty segment through the contract with BDF Nivea, will surpass 15% of its revenue.
