TNT Logistics Driver of the Year wins VW Golf

22 September 2003 - 08:52 CET

Simon Collins, a driver employed on TNT Logistics' Rolls-Royce contract, has been named the TNT Logistics Driver of the Year 2003. His prize is a brand new Volkswagen Golf.

Neil Crossthwaite, Managing Director, TNT Logistics UK, says the company decided to offer this fantastic prize for the second year running, as part of its ongoing commitment to promote road safety and driving excellence.

"Safety is an area of critical focus for TNT Logistics and we feel that having an impressive prize for the Driver of the Year competition is a way of encouraging our drivers to drive safely.

"Our Driver of the Year competition is the climax of a whole host of different road safety events and initiatives held throughout the year and is tangible evidence that we take road safety very seriously," adds Mr Crossthwaite.

To be eligible to enter, drivers must be accident free in the previous twelve months and tachograph and attendance records are also taken into account. The competition involves a road drive, a written exam and a manoeuvring test, supervised by IAM (Institute of Advanced Motoring) officials.

Andy Jenkins, Manager, Operations Training, TNT Logistics, organises the competition. "We have held the competition for eleven years now and we are delighted that the standard of driving displayed continues to improve year-on-year."

This year's competition had 60 of TNT Logistics' 3,500 drivers competing in the day-long event, held at the MIRA testing ground in the Midlands.

Mr Collins was thrilled to be named the winner - and to take home the first prize. He said, "I was delighted to win this fantastic prize. This was the first year that I had entered the competition, it was tough, but I really enjoyed the day and found the whole experience overwhelming."
