Lawrence Frederick, Senior Manager of Technology Services for TNT Logistics North America, one of the nation's leading providers of value-added logistics, addressed the Global Automotive Logistics Conference on the progress and advantages of shared channel opportunities within the automotive industry.

Presented by the World Resource Group and attended by leaders of North America's automotive industry, the conference took place June 12-13 in Dearborn Michigan.

In his presentation, "Thinking Inside the Box," Frederick said that by utilizing shared resources such as facilities, assets and technologies an automaker is able to create greater efficiencies among several of its supply chains. He cited as an example a successful shared channel engineered and operated by TNT Logistics for a major North America automaker that combined resources to serve both its aftermarket parts distribution and inbound production to create greater efficiency and cost savings.

Frederick emphasized the importance of technology in efficient shared channels and demonstrated how TNT Logistics suite of Supply chain applications, Vector21 was instrumental in integrating TMS and cross docking operations.

In addition to shared channel opportunities within an automaker's supply chain network, Frederick spoke to the emerging opportunities in shared channel between and among automakers. Frederick's illustrated how automakers can realize the same cost savings and efficiencies from sharing facilities, assets and technology among themselves as can be done by sharing channels within their company.
