15 November 2002 - 14:37 CET

TNT Logistics, a leading provider of logistics services, through its logistics business unit in the Benelux, has announced today that it is to start warehousing and transport operations for the maintenance, repair and operating supplies (MRO) division of Dow Benelux B.V., a leading company in the chemical sector.

TNT Logistics will be responsible for local goods collection, inbound reception, consolidation and distribution activities to Dow Benelux's chemical manufacturing facilities in Terneuzen, the Netherlands. The outsourced activities cover the transportation of all non-chemical goods on the premises, ranging from safety equipment and lab supplies to critical production and construction equipment.

TNT Logistics will increase safety standards by minimising transport movements at the production site. Dow aims to increase flexibility, efficiency, and productivity at the MRO division by outsourcing to TNT Logistics.

Alan Crunden, Operations Director at TNT Logistics Netherlands, says: "The five-year contract will benefit TNT Logistics as it will further develop its operational excellence in the chemicals sector as well as strengthen its position as an integrated logistics service provider in a highly automated production environment."

Dow Benelux sought a European company that could assume the internal logistics of non-chemical goods. Jan Geschiere, Purchasing Specialist at Dow Benelux, says: "It is particularly important that the company is able to bring the internal logistics activities up to a higher level, ultimately leading to improvements in quality and efficiency as well as cost reduction. Following thorough internal research and market research (using the tried and tested Six Sigma method) TNT Logistics proved to be the company that best fits our needs. We are confidently looking forward to working together with TNT Logistics".
