TNT Logistics has signed a two-year contract to develop logistics solutions for Braskem, the largest petrochemical company in Latin America. Through its relationship with TNT Logistics, Braskem aims to improve its present core processes in order to reach high performance levels and reduce overall costs.

TNT Logistics will operate within two Braskem industrial plants located in the Camaçari industrial region in the state of Bahia in Brazil that work with polyethylene, the basic raw material used in the production of plastics. TNT Logistics will be involved in the handling of petrochemical products, packaging of materials, storage including physical and accountancy inventory control and product shipping.

Carlo Rosa, Regional Director for TNT Logistics in Brazil commented "Petrochemicals is a strategic sector for us and through this important relationship not only enables us to establish our presence in the important Camaçari region but helps to strengthen our leading position in the South American market. Our relationship with Braskem is yet another example of how TNT Logistics is using its specialist expertise to diversify its sector presence in order to grow with its customers developing areas of business."

TNT Logistics is hiring over 100 employees to meet the demands of the contract. According to Braskem's Logistics Director, Isabel Figueiredo, choosing TNT Logistics is part of a revision of the company's outsourcing strategy for its logistics activities.

Figueiredo commented, "TNT Logistics was chosen for the project because it has the knowledge and capability to develop solutions that will optimise processes. It also possesses the investment capability and experience with other operations that may be adapted to our demands".
